In this census, the desired information was collected at the settlement level by visiting all rural areas of the country. Based on the statistical framework obtained from the aforementioned census, the rural agricultural census plan was implemented by the Statistics Center of Iran in 1974, 1975, and 1977 until 1979, as well as in 1982 and 1987, and its results were published. In 1981, Jihad Sazandegi, while implementing the rural identity card preparation plan, collected information similar to the information obtained from the 1973 agricultural census conducted by the Statistics Center of Iran. In 1988, the first general agricultural census was carried out by the Statistics Center of Iran in urban and rural areas of the country. In this census, all agricultural operations related to natural persons were surveyed by referring to households residing in rural and urban areas, as well as non-resident households and operations related to legal entities, by identifying all the places where their agricultural activities were carried out. Using the framework of this census, the first sample agricultural census project was carried out in 1992 by the Statistical Center of Iran. In this project, only agricultural activities of agricultural operations were covered, and information related to production, value of production, and cost of production of major agricultural products, etc. were collected for 1991. In 1993, the second general agricultural census of the country was carried out by the Statistical Center of Iran. In this census, some cities or urban areas whose number of farming households was not significant at the time of the 1988 census were not included in the census. In 2003, the third general agricultural census of the country was carried out by the Statistical Center of Iran in cooperation with the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad. In this census, to identify agricultural farmers, all parts of the country were listed, except for 108 cities called selected cities. The list of agricultural operators in selected cities was prepared in 2002 using the information available in the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad and Local Research, as part of the “Census of Agricultural Operators in Selected Cities” project. In 2005, using the statistical framework of the 2003 General Agricultural Census, the country’s livestock census was implemented for the first time by the Statistics Center of Iran and in collaboration with the Deputy of Livestock Affairs of the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad. The 2014 General Agricultural Census is the fourth general agricultural census of the country, which was conducted simultaneously throughout the country from October 25 to November 8. The results of this census include a wide range of statistical information that is presented in the form of various tables in electronic and paper publications.
