Release of Preliminary Results 2011 National Population and Housing Census in Iran

Preliminary results of the 2011 Population &Housing Census was released during a press conference by the Head of the Statistical Center of Iran, Dr. Adel Azar.
The conference was held in the location of the SCI census questionnaires processing and data extraction centre in Chizar, Tehran, Iran and correspondents of the Iranian Media got familiar closely with the stages of  processing and extraction of the census data
 The total population of Iran, based on the preliminary results of the 2011 National Population and Housing Census, is 74 million and 961 thousand and 702. The percentage of men in the Country's population is 51 percent while the figure for women is 49 percent. The sex ratio is 103 males per 100 females.

Dr. Azar, the head of the Statistical Center of Iran said that according to the recent census, the share of urban and rural population in Iran is 71 and 29 percent respectively.

Based on these preliminary results of the census, he said, the average household size in Iran is 3.6 persons, this figure in 2006 Census, was about 4 persons per each Iranian household. He also cited that the number of Iranian households is 20 million 703 thousand and 953. Based on the same results, the population growth rate in Iran currently is 1.3.
At this media conference, the head of Statistical Center of Iran expressed his thanks to all Iranian media personnel who were actively engaged in the publicizing campaign of the census and promotion of public statistical awareness during the Census. He added that information was one of the most important factors in collaboration of households with the census enumerators. Referring to extensive cooperation of Iranian households in the Census, he declared that the rate of non-response among Iranian households was only 0.5 percent which is very low in comparison to other countries. The ratio of absent households in the census has been announced 3.4 per cent. The SCI head said that after establishing and initiation of activities of the Absent Households Follow –up Telephone System, the number of the absent households and their missing data was expected to decrease further. Dr. Azar also mentioned that the 2011 Census enjoys a higher degree of accuracy in data extraction process compared with the previous censuses. It worth noting that the complete and final results of the 2011 National Population and Housing Census will be published in spring 2012.
